Barbara Yvonne Lewis

Barbara Kennedy Lewis, aged 83, passed away on November 7, 2024, in Mexia, Texas. Born on October 1, 1941 in Brenham, Texas, Barbara spent over 25 years at Mexia State School, where she retired as a Program Technician in 1998, then began her journey as a Foster Provider for Adults with Mental Disabilities.

Barbara was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Mexia. Her faith was an important part of her life.

A devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Barbara is survived by her daughter, Michelle Lewis-Davis, and her husband Chris of Mexia; her son, Derrell Lewis of Shreveport, LA; granddaughters, Jessica Wargo and her husband Derek of Mexia, Andrea Van Buren and her husband Matthew of Belton, Jennifer Smith and her husband Philip of Mabank; and grandson, Robert Knutson of Mexia, Great-Grandchildren, Sebastian, Esmay, Todd, Damien, Miley, Zoey, and Aubree. She is also survived by her special friends Bonnie and David Sertuche of Mexia. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Doris Kennedy; brothers, Lloyd and Dean Kennedy; and son, William "Pete" Lewis.

Known for her caring, loving, and supportive nature, Barbara cherished her family, especially her grandchildren, who were the light of her life. Her hobbies included gardening, fishing, and enjoying peaceful moments on her porch watching her pets play. Barbara enjoyed spending time with her special friends making them part of the family and playing games with them when she was able.

Barbara's life was marked by her dedication to her family, leaving behind a legacy of love and service. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her and loved her.
