Mrs. Thompson was born February 27, 1932 in Burke, Texas to the late Burton and Lottie Courtney and died Wednesday, August 30, 2023 in Lufkin, Texas. Mrs. Thompson had resided in the Lufkin area for most of her 91 years. She graduated from Lufkin High School and Stephen F. Austin University, earning a Bachelor's degree in Home Economics. She married Richard Thompson on December 26, 1953. She worked with her husband at Thomas and Thompson Construction for 22 years. Mrs. Thompson was involved with the “Cut and Grow” garden club as well as being very active in the Kianns. Mrs. Thompson was also involved in Volunteer Christian Builders, Good Sam traveling club, and the Uplift Society bridge club. She made many wedding and bridesmaid dresses as well as many clothes for family and friends. She made drapes and curtains for every home she lived in as well as upholstery for many sets of furniture. She fed her family well and was known as an excellent cook. Her hobbies were fishing, and bird watching and also enjoyed time in the garden. She was active in the First Baptist Church of Lufkin where she helped with the flowers for each Sunday service as well as helping with all of the Sunday school literature.
Mrs. Thompson is survived by daughter Shirley Parker and husband Brent, son Norman Thompson and wife Mary Ann, brother-in-law Douglas Thompson, sister-in-law Marion Montgomery and husband Bob, grandchildren Melody Thomason and husband Michael, Leigh Ann Hyde and husband Michael, Travis Parker and wife Addie, Kellie Tice and husband Daniel, Austin Parker and wife Shelby, and James Thompson. Great grandchildren Preston Parker and Parker Thomason, Annabelle Tice, Emma Tice and Danny Tice, Nathan Hyde, Caleb Hyde, Annie Parker and Easton Parker and a special friend Joy Coble.
Mrs. Thompson was preceded in death by her parents and husband, sisters Betty Aiken and husband Marvin, Jo Marie Jones and husband Charles.
Memorial services for Billie Thompson,91 of Lufkin, will be held Tuesday, September 5, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Pine Crest Chapel of Lufkin with Reverend Mark A. Newton officiating. A private family burial will be held at the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
