Chris Grant Dwire, known affectionately to friends and family as "Grizz," passed away peacefully on January 18, 2024, in Lufkin, Texas, at the age of 77. Born to parents Alfred and Alice Dwire on January 12, 1947, in Clinton, Iowa, Grizz led a rich and fulfilling life characterized by his adventurous spirit and love for his family and friends.


Grizz grew up with a close-knit family and is predeceased by his parents and sisters Yvonn Johnstone, Sylvia Dwire, Barbra Dwire, and Adrainne Dwire. He is survived by Yolanda Dwire.He is lovingly remembered by his brother, Otto; his children Bonnie Knight, Chris Jr., Daniel, Michael, Christopher Eric, Brian, and Albert, as well as his daughter Tanya; and a legacy that extends to his grandchildren—Robert Jr., Michael, Devon, Brock, Chelsea, Lisa, Timothy, Ashley, Jared, Logan, Abby, Tasia, Reagan, Caley, Addison, Madison, Harley, Aidan, Victor, Brandon, Christian—and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.


Grizz served his country with honor in the Air Force before embarking on a diverse career path that included pipeline work, truck driving, contracting, painting, and mastering the craft of a Certified Chevy Tech. His work history is a testament to his versatile talents and relentless work ethic.


Passionate about his interests, Grizz was a true enthusiast of Harley Davidson motorcycles. He made many cross-country trips on his beloved bike, turning strangers into friends wherever he roared into town. A gifted mechanic, Grizz took pride in working on cars and built some of the fastest big block Chevy motors that roared down the road. His creativity and love for problem-solving were evident in every project he touched.


At home, Grizz’s heart always had a special place for his wife and dogs, who were cherished companions throughout his life. Described as handy, creative, and loving, Grizz was the embodiment of a man who could fix anything and always found time to help others. His loving nature and generous spirit were hallmarks of his character.


Chris Grant Dwire's presence will be profoundly missed, but the impact of his legacy and the joy he brought to so many will continue to be felt by all who were fortunate enough to know him. As we bid farewell to Grizz, we celebrate a life well-lived and cherish the memories he left behind.
