A private graveside service for David Lee Pebsworth, 76, of Nacogdoches, will be held at Old North Baptist Church Cemetery in Nacogdoches.
David was born July 27, 1946, in San Bernardino, Calif., to the late Lloyd Sherwood Pebsworth and Hazel Selma Mikkelson.
The third of eight children, David was always a mischievous soul, acquiring a love of fast cars and motorcycles at an early age.
David graduated from Center High School and later earned an automotive mechanic degree from Texas A&M University. He turned his love of auto mechanics into a livelihood – first opening a garage in Huntsville before working for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, teaching auto shop to inmates.
In the seventies, he moved to Lufkin where he managed Louisiana Pacific’s trucking division. That is where he met his wife of 30 years, Nedra. He and Nedra made a life together, first in Lufkin and then Nacogdoches where they enjoyed time with their six children. They went on to welcome a hoard of grandchildren and great-grandchildren who loved their Papaw dearly. They were the apple of his eye.
In his later years, David owned and operated Intergrity Landscaping out of Nacogdoches with customers and employees he treated as family. After retirement, he continued his love of auto mechanics by completing several hobby projects with his sons, Stan and Kevin, brother, Mark, and best friend, Alan.
At one point, David spent several weeks repainting his Harley Davidson in a color scheme befitting any respectable seventy-something – bright yellow with racing flames. He was known for tearing down the driveway on that bike with Nedra yelling after him about trivial things like traffic laws, speed limits, and motorcycle helmets.
David was proceeded in death by his parents and brother, Mike.
He is survived by his wife, Nedra; children, Donnie Barlow and wife, Jerri, Stan Pebsworth and wife, Lee Anne, Kristi Spencer and husband, Rodney, Angie Edwards and husband, Gary, Carley Brookes Quast and husband, Phillip, and Kevin Pebsworth and wife, Jessica; siblings, Stanley Pebsworth and wife, Linda, Peggy Muckelroy, Juline Ferris and husband, Roger, Diana Brittain and husband, Jay, Donna Allsup, and Mark Hood and wife, Laurie; sister-in-law, Debra Stockton, special friends, Alan Singleton and Julio Cuarenta; four-legged children, May, his fierce protector, and Poo, his sweetheart; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other cherished family members and friends.
David’s family would like to say a sincere thank you to all who helped care for him in his final days including The Hospice of East Texas and Shirley Ferguson, who always knew how to keep him laughing.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to Impact Cowboy Church of Nacogdoches PO Box 632340 Nacogdoches, Texas 75963.
