Gregory Eugene Thames

Gregory Eugene Thames, age 70 of Huntington, Texas passed away on Saturday, July 13, 2019 at Hospice of the Pines in Lufkin, Texas. Gregory was born to parents JP Thames and Lois Matthews Thames while stationed in Japan 1949. He joined the US Army in 1968 and served his country while stationed in Korea during the Vietnam War. After retiring from the Army he spent his working career as a mechanical engineer for the medical industry. Among his many enjoyments he was very active in the American Legion and Veterans Affairs. He loved to fish and loved Texas but that could never compare to the love he had for his children. Words could never describe the depth of love he had for them. He had a dry sense of humor but was very outgoing and never met a stranger. He always found something in common with anyone he met. He was very loved by all who knew him and will miss him terribly. Gregory was preceded in death by his parents JP and Lois Thames. He is survived by his son Christopher Thames of North Carolina and his daughter Staci Thames of Kansas and one sister Cindy Roburtus of California. A Memorial Service to celebrate the life of Gregory will be held on Friday, July 19, 2019 at 10:00am in the McNutt Funeral Home Chapel located at 400 S. First St. Lufkin, Texas 75901.
