Jay W. Jackson, known affectionately as Jay to friends and Grandpa Jay to the family. Jay embarked on his final adventure April 3, 2024. Born on February 18, 1935, in Porter Springs, Texas. Jay took his final bow in Lufkin, Texas, after a brief, yet brave battle with cancer. Jay’s early years were spent navigating the hallways of Latexo Schools, where he honed his skills in the fine arts of handshake deals and charming banter, setting the stage for his future as a self-made businessman. He was the proud owner of a cleaners, where he ensured that not a single spot or wrinkle could escape his vigilant eye. Later, as an Allstate Insurance Salesman, he protected his clients from life's unexpected mishaps with a smile and a guarantee that, indeed, they were in good hands. Famous for his love of music, Jay could be found humming a tune or tapping to the beat of a favorite tune. His garden was his sanctuary, a place where he cultivated not just plants, but joy, peace, and the best tomatoes ever! Grandkids knew him as the playful patriarch, a man who could turn an ordinary afternoon into a treasure chest of memories, filled with laughter and the kind of fun that didn't require batteries or an internet connection. Jay had a talent for making others happy by sharing his cooking skills, but most often with his repertoire of stories. His tales were the life of any gathering; some were so outrageous that they defied belief! In his lifetime, Jay left an everlasting mark on the hearts of all who had the pleasure of meeting. He never met a stranger. He was a friendly, generous man with a faithful servant's heart. He enjoyed traveling with his RV friends and “storytime” with his coffee buddies. Jay lived a life of love. As we bid farewell to Jay, we do so with smiles through our tears. His legacy is not just in the businesses he built or the garden he tended, but in the laughter and love he inspired and the happiness he spread. Jay's curtain call may have come, but his spirit lives on in the stories we share and the memories we cherish and as Jay would say, "Some of them may even be true."
