Jerry Lynn Shiflet, fondly known as daddy or papaw, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2023, in Lufkin. Born on December 11, 1962, Jerry lived a life characterized by faith, courage, and passion. He was respected for his work ethic and admired for his ability to turn any wall into a canvas of perfection.
Beyond his professional life, Jerry had a deep love for the outdoors. He found joy in fishing and camping, often accompanied by his guitar. Those close to him will fondly remember his campfire tunes, echoing under the starry skies. Jerry's love for his family was unparalleled. The time he spent with his grandbabies was precious to him, and he cherished every moment. His love for Christmas was infectious, and he made every holiday season special for his loved ones. He also enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, like a good cup of coffee shared with those he held dear or a simple dance around the kitchen. His passion for life was evident in his every action, and his spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those he touched.
Jerry is survived by his sisters, Elsie and brother-in-law Robert and Mona; son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Amanda; daughters and son-in-law, Yachtolee and Raymond Burton, Kristy and Caleb Durbin, and Judy. His legacy will also live on through his grandchildren, Tyler, Taylor, Mackenzie, Bryan, Dakota, Koltyn, Matt Matt, Tyler, Odin, Wyatt, and his great-grandchildren, Easton, Remington, Kamdyn, and Aleaha. His nieces, nephews, and his special friend Stormy Free Douglas will also miss his presence. Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, Connie Edwards; parents, Yachtolee and Brian; brother, Bernie; brother-in-law, Gerald Drake, and his dog Misty. His memories will always be cherished by those who knew him, and his love for life will continue to inspire all.
Though Jerry's physical presence will be missed, his spirit lives on in the lives he has touched, the skills he taught, and the love he shared. His memory will continue to inspire and guide us, just like the North Star under which he loved to strum his guitar. Let us remember Jerry not with sorrow, but with the joy and warmth he brought into our lives. His was a life well-lived, full of love, music, and cherished moments. May his soul rest in peace.
