John Dale (Pop) Tyer, a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps passed away March, 18, 2023 at home surrounded by his family.
He was born on July 19, 1939, in Crockett, TX to the late John Weldon Tyer and Georgia Mae Lackey. He grew up in Houston County and attended Latexo High School.
At the age of 17, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and valued this service highly. He was a true patriot for his entire life. He worked for the State of Texas for more than a decade and later in life was employed by Lufkin Industries for 15 years. Pop was an avid fan of NASCAR and enjoyed watching the races with his wife Judy. He attended St. Patrick’s Catholic church with his wife for many years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Judy of Lufkin; sons, Lynn (Angie) Tyer of Florida, John (Kristie) Tyer of Lufkin; daughter, Chrystal Raum of Florida; step-children, Renee (Jim) Hosack of Tucson AZ, Malcolm (Michele) Ray of Beaumont, Lisa Ray of Lufkin, Doyle (Michele) Ray of Keller, special niece, Melissa Tyer of California, sister, Marilyn Bralley; 16 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren.
Pop was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Janiece Miller and special uncle, Bobby Lackey.
