John Jacob Durham

September 23, 1956 — June 16, 2023

John Jacob "Bocky" Durham, 66, of Pollok, Texas, passed away on June 16, 2023, after a courageous

battle with cancer. Born on September 23, 1956, in Texarkana, Arkansas, John was a beloved husband,

stepfather, brother, uncle, grandfather, and friend.


John is survived by his wife, Mary Durham; his sisters Janice Williams and Sarah Moore; stepchildren

Joshua McWilliams and wife Shannon, Valerie Dodd and husband Richard, Misty Ward and husband

Larry, and Erica Buesing and husband Emanuel. ln addition, he is survived by his nephews James

Parnell and wife Jessica, Michael Valentine and wife Brandi, and Cody Durham; nieces Marcie Hull and

husband Mark, and Samantha Chaplain and husband Jeremiah. John was grandfather to 16

grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, as well as a loving uncle to a host of great-nieces and great-nephews,


He was proceeded in death by his parents Jacob Beloved Durham and Hazel lnez Boatman, sister Martha

Ann Simpson, nephew Jason Valentine and niece Rebecca Parnell.

John spent many years working as a land surveyor, a profession that allowed him to explore and

appreciate the beauty of the outdoors. John was a 'Jack of all trades" and was called on by family and

friends alike for his knowledge pertaining to carpentry and electrical work. There wasn't an appliance he

couldn't repair and he was HVAC certified.


John was a dedicated member of the Redtown community for over 60 years.

A lover of music, John was known for his vast collection of records. He enjoyed sharing his passion for

music with others, often gathering friends and family for nights filled with laughter; song, and dance.

ln addition to his love for music, John was an exceptional42 player, a popular dominoes game native to

Texas. He spent countless hours honing his skills. John's competitive spirit and passion for the game led

to many friendships and lasting memories.


John had a natural talent for storytelling and a keen sense of humor. He was known for his ability to

bring laughter and joy to any gathering with his collection of jokes and amusing anecdotes.

John Jacob Durham will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His memory will live on

through the many lives he touched and the countless moments of joy he brought to those around him.


ln lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Durham Cemetery in care of Janice

Williams 805 Home Ave, Nacogdoches, Texas 75964.
