Joseph David Henley, known affectionately as Skip by his friends and family, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2024, in Village Mills, Texas, at the age of 80. He was born on June 1, 1944, in Fargo, North Dakota and was adopted by his parents, the late Davi and Eleanor Henley. His life was a testament to the values of hard work, dedication, and the importance of family.
Joseph's journey led him from the cold winters of Fargo to the warm embrace of Village Mills, where he spent his final years. He was the beloved husband of Ann henley, with whom he shared a full life of love and adventures for 58 years. Together they raised a family that included their sons, David Scott and his wife, Kathy, David Lee and his wife, Kelly, and their daughter, April Marie. Skip's love extended to his adopted daughters, Vanessa and Kim, who along with her husband Ben, added to the joy in his life. Joseph was proud grandfather to Stephanie, Ryan, Katlyn, Leah, Lauren, and Andrew, and he cherished every moment he spent with them and his nine great grandchildren, who will carry the memory of his love and lessons forward.
For 38 years Joseph dedicated his professional life to Texaco as a Plant Shift Supervisor for the Turbine Room and Power Station No. 2. He never missed a day of work and retired with years of sick time unused. His commitment to his work was matched only by his serves to his country in the U.S. Coast Guard, a period of his life that he was proud of. Joseph's entrepreneurial spirit shone through in his ownership of a roofing business, which he managed on the side with the same integrity an excellence he brought to every endeavor.
Joseph's personal journey was marked by a significant milestone: he was proudly sober for 35 years, a triumph he attributed to the Lord's help. His strength and perseverance in this area of his life were an inspiration to many who knew him.
An avid fisherman, Joseph found solace and joy in quiet moments by the water. His hands were rarely idle, as he was often found building birdhouses or lending his handy skills to home repairs for people in the Wildwood community. In his younger days, Joseph had a passion for motorcycles, adventure, travel, and billiards, hobbies that brought him a sense of freedom and excitement.
Joseph's legacy is one of love, kindness, and handiness. He was a man who could fix anything, but more importantly, he built lasting relationships and a family that adored him. His gentle spirit and willingness to help others left a lasting impact on everyone he met.
