Lavene Watkins

Our mother Berta “LaVene” Watkins passed away peacefully February 5th, 2023, at the Joseph House with her daughters by her side. Although our hearts are saddened. We take great comfort and rejoice in knowing she is resting in the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

She was born April 9th, 1936, to the late Vernon and Reba Weatherly in Keltys and was the oldest of 7 children. She loved her children with everything she had and worked tirelessly to make sure they had everything that they needed. She accepted Christ as her savior at a very young age and served him faithfully throughout her life. Her church home was Eustace Assembly of God where she was an active member for many years. She loved going to church and rarely missed a chance to go to both Wednesday and Sunday services. In fact, this past Sunday she entered those Heavenly gates to attend the greatest church service ever. There to greet her were many loved ones just waiting her arrival.

LaVene is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Larry Watkins, brothers; Glenn Weatherly and Donnie Weatherly; sisters, Nelda Mitchell and Gwen Wilkinson, nephew, Kelly Weatherly; stepson Larry Arthur Watkins, great-grand son, Cason Collingsworth and son-in-law, Pete Morehead

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters and sons-in-law, Shelia and Bryce Nutt of Pollok, Rita and Steve Feagins of Bradford; son and daughter-in-law, James and Brenda Pennington of Richardson, Michael Watkins of Oklahoma, step-daughter, Jana Tepper of Oregon, Sister Neta Mire of Ragley Louisiana, brother and sister-in-law, Ronnie and Shari Weatherly of Lufkin; grandchildren Randy Glenn Arnold and wife Mera, T.J. Arnold and wife Sherieka, Tyler Nutt and wife, Jenni; Jordan Nutt and wife Nikki, Calen Morehead and wife Kaytlyn, Halee Elliott and husband Brandon, Ryan Schwarzlose and wife Miranda, Alex Watkins, Matthew Watkins and Jacob Watkins; great- grandchildren, Kristen Crews and husband Zac, Kaden Arnold, Cade Collingsworth, Kylie Arnold, Reggie Arnold, Jaylon Arnold, Joey Nutt, Jasper Nutt, Roman Elliott, soon to arrive River Elliott, and Conner and Clayton Morehead.

Family and friends are invited to attend Celebration of Life from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Wednesday February 8, 2023, at the McNutt Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Thursday February 9, 2023, in the McNutt Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Jonathan Lilley officiating. Interment will follow in the Cold Spring Cemetery in Garrison, Texas
