Linwood David Morris was born April 18, 1933, in Lufkin, Texas to Robert Eugene Morris and Ruthie Lorene Morris. He passed away peacefully in a local hospital at the age of 88 on August 22, 2021. Linwood was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean war. After being discharged from the service he worked for Brown & Root and Haliburton for many years as a construction laborer and Foreman. He enjoyed traveling with his work and in his personal life away from work. Linwood is survived by his wife, Shirley Smith-Morris of Lufkin; daughter, Beverly Phillips and husband, Mark of Lufkin; sisters, Helen Baker and husband Garland of Lufkin, Bobbie Vail and husband James of Lufkin; brothers, Hootie Morris & wife, Peggy of Lufkin, Alton Morris of Lufkin, Leon Morris of Nacogdoches; stepsons, Michael Smith and wife Sheri, Brian Smith and wife Brandy, all of Lufkin; stepdaughters, Sandra Smith of Diboll, Rhonda Smith Oliver also of Lufkin; granddaughters, Morgan Mckay of Lufkin, Nikki Cruze and husband James of Lufkin; grandsons, Matthew Mckay of Houston, Shaun Rice of Lufkin; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren, and a host of other family members and friends. Mr. Morris is preceded in death by his parents, Robert Eugene and Ruthie Lorene Morris; brothers, Charles Wayne Morris, Gary Lynn Morris; daughter, Connie Mckay; and step-daughter, Cheryl Lee Smith-Corbett. Pallbearers include Tyler L. Smith, Michael B. Weisinger, Ottie Deaton Jr., Dustin L. Smith, Tyler L. Arnold, and Jason E. Mcguire Jr.; honorary pallbearers are Josiah D. Warden and Levi G. Oliver. The family will receive family and friends for visitation Friday, August 27, 2021, from 5-7 pm at McNutt Funeral Home of Lufkin. Services for Linwood David Morris will be held Saturday, August 28, 2021, at 10 am in the McNutt Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin, Texas with interment to follow at Wallace Chapel Cemetery in Lufkin.
