Louis Edward Snyder

February 3, 1930 — March 29, 2023

Louis was born in Groveton, Trinity County, Texas to John Charley Snyder and Eddie Onelia (Dunn) Snyder and lived his whole life in Trinity County. Despite being born in the Great Depression, he and his siblings enjoyed a wonderful childhood growing

up on the farm in the Griffin Ranch area outside of Groveton. Jake and Eddie moved the family into the city of

Groveton when Louis was a young man.

Louis served his country proudly in the Army and Navy branches of service during the Korean War. He served as a medic with the Army while stationed at Fort Benning, Fort Stewart and Camp Pendleton. He also served as a medic with the Navy aboard the USS Windham Bay, and while stationed in Korea.

Louis was always on the go. He would convert a truck or a van into a camper and load up his family for short or long trips. Along with his brother Vernon and nephew John Wesley in their camper van, and anyone else that wanted to travel along, he headed off on many a trip across the United Stated to enjoy the great scenery of the America that he loved. He took his family and friends on vacations, to car sales, to flea markets and other odd trips to pick up antique cars for himself or friends. He owned many different old cars and would sometimes drive them in parades. He owned a motorcycle for many years, enjoying weekend rides with friends and family. Louis made friends easily because he never met a stranger. He loved starting up conversations with everyone he met and he could talk about anything. He would always joke around with the youngsters and get them laughing.

Louis married 3 times and leaves behind 6 children, 8 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild, that he was very proud of. His children loved him and took care of him in his later years as a widower and through recent health issues. Besides frequent visits with his children and their families, Louis had a very large extended family and never missed an opportunity throughout the years to visit with his parents, siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and in-laws.
