Martha Alice Scogins Schmidt

Martha Alice Scogins Schmidt, 84, of Cleveland, Virginia, passed away on Wednesday, December 23, 2020. She was born on April 2, 1936, in Lufkin, Texas in Angelina County, a daughter of the late Ethridge Williams and Iva Bess Barnes Williams. A resident of Conroe, she was raised in Texas. She married Charles Cecil Scogins on November 2, 1950 and remained married to him for 49 ½ years until his death. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by son, Danny Scogins; sons-in-law, Johnny James and James High; grandson, James High Jr.; grandson-in-law, Chad Hobgood; sisters, Mary Jo Alison, Helen Brown, Billie McMullen, and Georgia Ann Williams She worked various jobs throughout her life. She worked at Foley’s during the Christmas season to help buy Christmas gifts for her children. She was a caregiver with Visiting Nurses and Comfort Keepers. She said her favorite job was upholstery. She loved taking something wore out and making it look better than new. She also taught others the trade. The other job she loved was being a preacher’s wife. She and her husband Cecil pastored Faith Assembly of God for 27 ½ years. She was church administrator, Sunday School teacher, Women’s Ministry Leader, Children’s Church Leader and whatever else was needed. Her most rewarding job was Momma to five children. Survivors include her husband Tommy J. Schmidt Sr., whom she married June 16, 2007; children, Debra High, Randy Scogins and wife Joyce, Terrie James, and Jimmy Scogins and wife Mona; grandchildren, Ginger Jarrells, Amanda Wheeland, Scooter Scogins, April Nikolaus, Chad Joslin, Johnny James, Ben James, Quanah Smith, Tajuana Hobgood, Shane Scogins, Chanee Shearn, Tessie Zuniga, Shawn Scogins, and Katie Scogins; sister, Betty Gregg and husband Fred; brother, Earl Williams. She is also survived by over 60 great and great-great grandchildren.
