Mary O'Grady Toms, a beacon of warmth and love, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2024, in Crockett, Texas, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease. Born on November 14, 1950, in Houston, Texas to Grady and Elita Mae Spencer. Mary's infectious smile and generous spirit were a gift to all who knew her throughout her 73 years of life.
Mary grew up in the close-knit community of Kennard, Texas, where she attended school and blossomed into a woman of strong Christian values and kindness. Her life was a testament to the power of faith, love, dedication, and hard work. As a homemaker, Mary took on various jobs, always ensuring that her home was a place of comfort and joy for her family, friends and her little dog ‘Stinky’!
Her legacy is carried on by her loving sons, Sidney Bennett and his fiancée Melanie of Lovelady, Earl Wayne Toms and his wife Kendell of Austonio, and Anthony Toms and his wife Maina of Crockett. Mary's joy was multiplied with the birth of her grandchildren, Cameron and Olivia Bennett, who brought her immeasurable happiness and pride.
Her unique bond with her ex-husband and best friend, Travis Toms of Crockett, remained a testament to her belief in enduring friendship and forgiveness.
As we say goodbye to Mary, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of love, faith and family. Her journey on earth has ended, but her story will be told for generations.
The family would like to thank the staff at Enchanted Pines and Whitehall for their outstanding care of our Mom!
A private memorial and celebration of life will be held with family.
