Peggy Jane Albritton

May 28, 1956 — December 10, 2024

Lufkin

Peggy was born May 28, 1956 in Lufkin, Texas, to Naomi Lynn (Buchanan) and Hollice O. Batten, and died Tuesday, December 10, 2024 in Huntington, TX, surrounded in love by her family and friends.

Mrs. Albritton began her teaching career at Lufkin ISD in 1982, upon graduating from Stephen F. Austin State University, and joined Huntington ISD in 1994. Over a teaching career spanning 38 years, Mrs. Albritton dedicated her time, energy, and creativity to working with students inside and outside of the classroom. Her wide breadth of knowledge, willingness to learn and try new things, and dedication to developing students started with teaching home economics, but led to work study, robotics, and engineering. Her efforts outside the classroom were equally as broad and included sponsoring cheerleading, FHA, 4-H, Angelina County Youth Fair, and robotics, all of which received many awards and accolades. Her relationships with students and colleagues were some of the highlights of her life.

Above all, Peggy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to many. She took pride in supporting her daughters in all their endeavors and throughout their lives. Lovingly known as “Gigi”, she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandbabies. Her hobbies included traveling with friends, reading, and crafting. After retirement, she happily sold prom dresses at Rubie & Jane and volunteered at the Lufkin VFW.

Mrs. Albritton is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Ashley and Todd Kettelkamp of Huntington; daughter and son-in-law, Caitlyn and Kris Kirkland of Alto; daughter and son-in-law, Rachel and Reagan Walker of Huntington; grandchildren, Barrett and Briley Bratton, and Rebecca and Riggs Walker; brother Doug Batten; brother and sister-in-law Randy and Sherri Batten; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Albritton.

Special memorials may be made to VFW Memorial Post #1836, 1800 Ford Chapel Rd., Lufkin, TX 75901.
