Ricki Lin Thornton, a beloved brother, uncle, friend, and free spirit, passed away on September 5, 2024. He was born in Lufkin, Texas, on December 5, 1959. Ricki lived a life full of adventure and dedication.
Ricki worked as a rigger in the construction industry alongside his brothers, Robbie and Barry, for over forty years. Known for his nomadic lifestyle, Ricki embraced the freedom and challenges of his work, always ready to lend a hand to those in need. His generosity was legendary; he was the kind of person who would give you the shirt off his back, even if it meant he went without.
Ricki was the glue that held his family together, always staying in touch and keeping everyone informed about family news and events. He played a pivotal role in helping his nephews break into the construction business, securing employment, and providing a place to stay until they got on their feet. His love for life and his family was evident in everything he did.
Ricki was also a great cook, known for making some of the best chicken and lima beans. His culinary skills were just another way he showed his love and care for those around him.
In his final days, Ricki was lovingly cared for by his sister, Teressa Adrian, who stayed with him 24/7 in the hospice facility for five days, ensuring he did not die alone. Teressa never gave up hope and believed Ricki would recover. Kim, or Kimberly as Ricki called her, stayed with Ricki daily and was the best sister-in-law he could have ever expected.
Barry and Kim worked on many jobs with Ricki, traveling across the United States. Ricki was also his mother’s favorite, a testament to the special bond they shared. Though Ricki faced his own struggles, he remained a pillar of strength and support for those around him. His passing leaves a void that will be deeply felt by all who knew him.
Ricki is survived by his brother Barry (wife Kim) and his sister Teressa Adrian (husband Mike). He was preceded in death by his Father, Robert Cleo Thornton, his Mother, Nadine Nathlea Thornton, and brother Robert Dean Thornton. Ricki has three nephews: James Michael Caskey (Ashlea), Nick Caskey (Kristen), and Jason Caskey (Katie Madison). Ricki has two great-nieces and five great-nephews and leaves many family and friends who will cherish his memory.
