Robert Cates

Robert Lynn Cates, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2023, in his beloved hometown of Lufkin, Texas. He was born on June 18, 1956, to Nell Sessions and the late Robert O. Cates. Robert was a proud graduate of Lufkin High School and spent his career dedicated to the J.A.M organization for 10 years. Robert will be remembered for his loving, funny, and selfless nature, always putting others before himself.

Robert is survived by his devoted wife of many years, Janet Cates; his loving mother, Nell Sessions; his two sons, Wade and Blake Cates; his three cherished grandchildren, Lane, Riley, and Diesel Cates; his special family friend, Micah Forrest; his sister and brother-in-law, Sherry and David Massingill; his sister-in-law, Cynthia Oliver; and was preceded in death by his father, Robert O. Cates, and brother-in-law, Calvin (Bud) Oliver.

Aside from his professional accomplishments, Robert was a man who truly lived life to the fullest. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing, often embarking on adventures with his sons and friends. These excursions allowed him to connect with nature and appreciate the beauty of the world around him. Robert's love for the outdoors was only surpassed by his love for his family, with whom he spent countless hours creating cherished memories.

Robert's sense of humor was one of his most endearing qualities. He was always ready with a joke or a funny story to brighten someone's day.
