Robert Preston McCormick, affectionately known as Preston (Pawpaw) to his dear friends and family, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2024, at the age of 80 in Jacksboro, Texas. Born on January 27, 1944, in Longview, Texas, Preston was a man whose life was defined by his unwavering faith, his boundless kindness, and his selfless nature.
Preston was the cherished son of the late William Lee and Mary Jane Sapp McCormick. He was the beloved brother of William Roy and the late Frank Lee, Glennie Sue Rudit, and Mary Lee Graham. His greatest sadness was the loss of his two great-grandchildren, Michael Lair and Megan Filline, whose memories he held close to his heart.Preston's legacy of love continues through his devoted wife, Jayne, with whom he shared 24 years of cherished moments. He was the proud father of Deborah Hagen (Troy), Lynda Filline (Chris), and Steve McCormick (Bethaney). The children of his wife Jayne; Shawnee Loeckle-Baimbridge, Glorie Loeckle-Lynch also loved him dearly. His joy was multiplied by his nine grandchildren, Lynda Marie, Kimberly, Lyndsey, Taylor, Patrick, Riley, Oakley, Holly, and Amanda, all of whom he adored. Preston loved his East Texas family with every fiber of his being, and his guidance and protection were the cornerstones of their lives.
Professionally, Preston made significant contributions as a Project Manager in the Engineering Department of Texas, dedicating over 45 years of diligent work before retiring. His commitment to service extended beyond his professional life as he honorably served his country in the United States Army. His dedication to fellow veterans was exemplified through his active involvement with the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), where he served as the Commander for VFW Post 5076 in Garland, Texas from 2007-2008 and as District 3 Commander from 2010 till 2011.
Preston's life was a living testament to his love for God, his family, and his country. He lived each day with a purpose, ensuring that those around him felt the warmth of his care and the strength of his support. His presence was a beacon of hope and comfort, and his absence will leave a profound void in the lives of all who knew him.To say that Preston was faith-filled would be an understatement; his trust in the divine guided him through life's trials and triumphs. He approached every situation with kindness, always willing to lend a hand or offer a word of encouragement. His selflessness was evident in the way he put the needs of others before his own, making a lasting impact on the lives he touched.
As we bid farewell to a man of exceptional character, we find solace in the knowledge that his spirit will continue to watch over us, just as he always did.
