We come to you with somber yet heartwarming task of celebrating the life of Sheryl Ann Bentley, a beacon of light and love in her community, who was born on November 19, 1958, in the small town of Lufkin, Texas. It is with both sadness and a profound sense of honor that we announce her passing on May 12, 2024, in the very place she first entered this world, due to a tragic car accident.


Sheryl, affectionately known by many as simply Sheryl Bentley, was a woman whose life was characterized by her loving nature, her friendly demeanor, and the laughter that seemed to follow her wherever she went. She was the cherished daughter of Betty and Carrle Stanley, and her roots in Lufkin ran deep and nourished her throughout her life.


In her youth, Sheryl’s education journey concluded after completing the 9th grade, but she never stopped learning from the world around her. Her true vocation was found in the unwavering dedication she showed as a loving and devoted wife to her late husband, Barron Lee Bentley, and as a mother to her three children, Shane Stanley, Brandy Bentley, and Barron Bentley.

Sheryl’s life was further enriched by the joy of her grandchildren, Samantha Stanley, Makayla McClure, Ashlyn Bentley, Cody Stanley, Landon McClure, and Cameron Bentley all knew the warmth of their grandmother’s love and the sparkle of mischief in her eyes. Her daughter-in-law, Cassie Bentley, was also a beloved member of Sheryl’s family, embraced with the same affection she extended to all.


Sheryl was not one to seek the spotlight, yet her life was a testament to the power of simple acts of kindness and the strength of family bonds. She was a woman who found her greatest fulfillment in the everyday moments spent with loved ones, and her legacy is one of joy, compassion, and an ever-present sense of humor.


The words of poet Maya Angelou resonate as we remember Sheryl: “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” Sheryl Bentley left an indelible mark on the hearts of those she encountered, and her memory will be cherished as one of warmth and laughter.
