Shirley Eloise Daugherty Wilburn, a beacon of gentle love and selfless devotion, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2024, in Nacogdoches, TX, at the age of 85. Born on September 26, 1938, in Joaquin, TX, to the late Jim and Eva Daugherty, Shirley's life was a testament to the enduring power of kindness and the joy of simple pleasures.
Shirley was predeceased by her beloved husband, Charlie Wilburn, her son Royce Wilburn, her daughter Brooksie Wilburn, her grandson, David Wilburn, her brother James Daugherty, her sister Elizabeth Bass, three nieces, and one nephew. Despite these profound losses, Shirley’s loving heart never wavered. She is survived by her devoted children, Sherry Sowell of Nacogdoches, TX, Gail Palmer of Many, LA, Robert Wilburn of La Mesa, TX and her sister Shirely Tinney of Quinland, TX. Her legacy further blooms in the lives of her eleven grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughters, who will carry forward her spirit of generosity and care.
An avid player of dominos and bingo, Shirley also found joy and contentment in working on jigsaw puzzles. Her time spent at Westward Trails was marked by the many friendships she cultivated, and the extended family and friends who came to know and adore her. She was indeed well-loved, and her absence will be deeply felt by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
To quote the timeless words of Helen Keller, "What we have once enjoyed deeply we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes a part of us." Shirley's love has indelibly become a part of many, and her memory will be cherished as a guiding light of love and gentleness.
Shirley Eloise Daugherty Wilburn's life was one of profound impact, marked by the love she gave and the grace with which she lived. She will be truly missed, but her loving presence will forever be felt by those she touched.
