The 10th of 14 children to Warren and Nannie Scroggins in Garrison, Texas. She attended grade school at Holly Springs and high school at Garrison. Her first job was Houston Bell Telephone where she worked as a long-distance operator. Viola married Vernon “Bill” Garrett on February 14, 1946. Most of their time raising six children was spent in Garrison and New Diana, Texas, where she enjoyed teaching Sunday School and membership with the Eastern Star. She remained married to Bill until his death in 1991. Her last earthly residence was in Garrison, Texas. She was a member of Holly Springs Baptist Church and Pleasant Hill Baptist Church where she had the privilege of traveling to the Holy Land and considered it one of the greatest blessings of her life. She met and was married to Albert “Buck” Reed on October 3, 2001 until his death in 2003. Mrs. Reed enjoyed family. She found joy in the company of her children, grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and had a special gift of making babies giggle. She will be remembered for her beautiful smile and her contagious laugh when family gathered and told stories of the past. She liked to tell the story of having a nine-month-old and newborn twins when finances were tight, and the babies were bedded in drawers removed from a large dresser! Ms. Reed was proud to be from a time when life was simpler, and people made the most of what they had and felt blessed to have it. The most important thing to her, above all, was the acceptance of Jesus as her Savior. Her Presence will be greatly missed by so many who loved her.
