Weaver Lockett Rutledge

March 16, 1939 — February 9, 2024

Weaver Lockett Rutledge Jr, known affectionately as Weaver or W.L. to his friends and family, embarked on his final journey February 9, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, adventure, and heartfelt stories as big and wide as the Texas sky.

Weaver was the beloved son of the late Weaver Lockett Sr and Elda Hord Rutledge, who instilled in him love of God, family and the value of hard work, a foundation he carried throughout his life. They, along with wife Cindy, sisters Lois Chambers, Jeanette Bullock and Katherine Rutledge are joined in heaven where we are sure he is entertaining them with stories, memories, singing and laughter.

He is survived by his eldest sister Lottie Crim and younger brother Carey Rutledge (Peggy).

Weaver had an adventurous spirit and was a man of both land and sea. His service in the US Army showcased his love and dedication of country and his careers as a sea captain, commercial fisherman and truck driver embodied his love for travel on the open road and the deep seas. Weaver never shied away from the opportunity to embark on new endeavors. His journey through life was marked by a series of bold uncharted paths, each role allowing him to meet new people and share his infectious humor and zest for life.

Those who knew Weaver will fondly remember his larger-than-life personality, love for jokes, pranks and his irrepressible spirit. He was the life of the party and always ready with a tale that could provoke laughter and smiles. In his quieter moments, he expressed his reflective side through writing poetry and capturing the beauty of the world he loved to explore.

His legacy and spirit will continue through his family; daughter Kimberly Johnson (Tim), son Weaver Alan Rutledge, son Clay Alexander Rutledge, his treasured grandchildren, Haley Otto (Nate), Grayson Johnson, Rachel Rutledge, and the anticipated arrival of his great-grandchild. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins and loved ones with hearts full of gratitude for the time shared with him and countless memories that will continue to bring smiles to our faces and inspire laughter for generations to come.

Weaver was a man who never saw life as a series of endings, but rather as a collection of beginnings, each more promising than the last. His approach to life was to seize it with both hands, to find the humor in every situation, and to forge bonds that could weather any storm.

In the spirit of Weaver’s boundless enthusiasm for life, we do not say goodbye but rest in peace, until we meet again on the shores of eternity with our Lord and Savior. The family will honor and celebrate the remarkable life of Weaver Lockett Rutledge Jr. and his journey through life that was as unique as the man himself. Friends and family are invited to join us on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at 1:00pm, at the home of Les and Merideth Chambers.

The family would like to thank providers Crystal McCumber, Lindsey Ross, and the staff at Hemphil Care Center for their loving care and unwavering support. A special thank you also to Cris Hubert for all his help, support and trustworthy friendship.
